Richard Tosh - Solicitor
Fifteen years of working in the legal and insurance industries in three jurisdictions have given Richard Tosh the ability to produce clear, concise and commercial advice, and the skill to litigate commercial disputes of all shapes and sizes.
Richard joined Jones Fee in July 2007. His depth of experience in the insurance industry, working both in law firms and in-house for insurance companies in the UK and Hong Kong, brings significant value to Jones Fee's offering in the areas of insurance and commercial litigation.
Richard has a Bachelor of Laws degree with Honours from the University of Sheffield and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, both obtained during his time in the UK.
Richard's background
Richard began his career in the claims department of Munich Reinsurance Company in London where he worked predominantly on professional indemnity, employers' liability, public liability and motor claims.
He undertook his training contract at a leading London insurance practice and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in March 2001.
On qualification Richard moved to a top ten UK firm and specialised in reinsurance work. His experience includes working on three high profile cases, two reaching the Court of Appeal and one reaching the House of Lords. He was also involved in a number of arbitrations. During Richard's time in London, he was seconded for six months to the law division of Aon Insurance Brokers.
In 2005 Richard moved to his firm's Hong Kong office and was admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of Hong Kong in June 2006. While in Hong Kong he gained particular experience in providing coverage advice and undertaking defence work in the areas of professional indemnity (with an emphasis on accountants, solicitors and construction professionals), directors and officers, jewellers' block and energy.
In July 2007 Richard joined Jones Fee and was admitted as a solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in December 2009. Since joining Jones Fee Richard has provided policy coverage advice, defended claims and pursued recovery actions in relation to most of the main classes of insurance business.
PRIMARY AREAS OF PRACTICE
Richard has experience at the highest level of advising on policy coverage and conducting commercial litigation in relation to the following types of insurance: public liability, contractors' all risks, material damage, general liability, product liability, professional indemnity, motor, health and disability, directors' and officers' liability, reinsurance. Richard also has experience of drafting insurance policy wordings.
When Richard is not at work he enjoys spending time with his wife, young daughter and miniature schnauzer. He is also interested in everything "Top Gear" and likes eating out, going to concerts and watching movies.
