David Greig - Solicitor

With close to 20 years' legal experience across varied international locations, David Greig is skilled at effectively getting to the crux of legal issues and negotiating the path to effective results.

David joined Jones Fee in 2004 when he returned to New Zealand with his family following 15 years of practicing law in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and the Cook Islands. Currently David deals with all areas of the firm's insurance litigation practice. Clients appreciate that David places an emphasis on speaking in plain English rather than 'legalese'.

David's background

David's varied and rather prestigious background includes holding the post of Crown counsel in the Cook Islands Crown Law Office for two years, advising that government on all legal and constitutional issues, as well as drafting legislation and conducting criminal prosecutions. While in Rarotonga he also worked in private practice focusing on commercial and criminal law.

Among his achievements, David set up the regulatory framework for the Cook Islands ' cultured pearl industry, a significant export earner for the country.

In the United Kingdom, David was a senior solicitor for a leading law firm that specialises in the leisure and entertainment industries. During his time in Hong Kong, David worked in-house for a legal publishing company.

David is a graduate of the University of Auckland, with a BA in Spanish in addition to his LLB. He is also admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of England and Wales as well as to the High Court of the Cook Islands. As a former local body politician in Auckland, David also has hands-on experience dealing with the local government regulatory environment.
