Philippa Fee - Partner
Philippa has been practicing as a commercial litigation specialist since 1980. She became a partner of the predecessor firm to Jones Fee in 1986.
She was originally drawn to law by the challenge of solving problems and the drama associated with court cases. Over her many years of practice she has built a reputable career, and still takes much satisfaction from achieving the best outcome she can in each case. Philippa's interests include spending time with her family, reading and walking the dogs.
Primary areas of practice
Philippa regularly advises corporate clients in dispute resolution, litigation and provides commercial advice in New Zealand and overseas. Her particular areas of expertise cover insurance, corporate legal services and receiverships and insolvency.
In these areas Philippa:
- Regularly acts in the defence of professional negligence claims against professionals, such as solicitors, accountants, engineers and valuers
- Acts for product liability insurers involving claims of defective products
- Gives commercial advice to clients who are developing new products, or expanding or rationalising existing markets or products
- Advises on writing or reviewing policies, and assists clients in providing an appropriate legal framework for business development.

- Is a member of the Society of Construction Law.
- Regularly speaks to industry groups on legal issues relevant to the commercial sector, such as risk management, liability of professional and company directors/officers, insurance law, and developments in the law (particularly tort law).
- Has been a very active member of the Auckland District committee of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, holding positions on various subcommittees responsible for professional development of the insurance industry.
- Has been on the Board of Governors for Kristin School, one of New Zealand’s largest independent schools, since 2000. www.kristin.school.nz
- Authored the New Zealand chapter of International Product Liability, a text published by the Centre for International Legal Studies.
